What is the pay like for overseas trained teachers. I'm Canadian trained and thinking of coming over to Uk in Aug - heard that if you come over to teach that you end up being paid as unqualified? Can anyone tell me if this is true or give me some advice

If you look at the previous posting "How much can I expect to pay...", there is a response that deals with your question.

Well, you will get paid as an unqualified teacher because you will not have a UK teaching certificate. Also, when you first arrive you will be under "Emergency" tax which will take more money out of your paycheck than usual until you get your National Number processed. You will get this money back, but it may be *months* before you see those monies. Pay with less than five years of experience may be around 24,000 pounds give or take. Over five years experience will put you up around 26,000 pounds but trying to negotiate for more money (even if you have lots of years) may be difficult because you will not be certified as a UK teacher. You can go through the process of getting a UK teaching certificate but it may take up to a year. Hope that helps a little.

The temporary tax code thing is a pain - happened to me too. some schools are not that great at sorting out your tax.

You will be paid as unquilified here regardless of how much experience you have until you have QTS (qualified teacher status). Basically you can work here for 4 tears without QTS. Best thing is to either get the school here to recognise your experience OR get them to put you through QTS programme and then you can move onto the qualified scale.

Surely going through an agency should get you a better pay scale. Less than 36,000 and I will not be going.
