Hey MegR,
I teach IT in a school in Warwickshire. The school is certainly challenging but it’s fantastic to see hard work making a difference. We have a large amount of SEN kids and some who are just plain rude! After an initial period of despair, I’m seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. The kids are starting to respect and respond to my lessons; it’s extremely encouraging, exciting and TIRING! To all of you who are finding teaching in the UK a challenge, keep going!! I still maintain its one of the most rewarding and challenging experiences and I’m sure my teaching is really improving.
MEGR - Where are you, where you from and how do you find it? |

Hi matt,
Im an english/Drama/History teacher in Melbourne Australia. I am doing alot of research to see whether or not a move to the UK would be a good thing for me to do next year. I've been at my current school for 5 years, this is my sixth, so Im serious about teaching and I love it too. My school was tough to start with, especially considering I was a graduate when I came here! I got eaten up in the first semester, and it didnt really get to be a good time unitl my thrid year when I finally started to relax and know what I was doing. Id be a bit scared to make the move but I think it would be amazing to teach in another country. I have no doubts or delusions that the kids would be tough, but for me its about the school and how much support and back up they give their teachers. If the support is there I have found you can cope with the tough moments. Do you find you have that at your school? What questions do you reccomend I ask interviewers when the time comes? |
