Good day!
I'm considering making the move to the UK to teach. Does anyone know anything about bringing over a pet? I have a cat, and would hate to leave him!

Thanks for any help!

hi,glad you are thinking about the move. The UK has no rabies virus, any where. One of the benifits of being on an island. So, your pet will have to be quarentined four 6 months, before you can have it. If you can handle that,, then they will welcome the kitty. Good luck

Pets don't have to be quarantined for six months anymore, but there is a long process and a lot of paperwork that you have to have in order to avoid the quarantine. Read through the requirements for the pet scheme here:

It's a long process, but worth it to avoid quarantine. Hope this helped--gelis

Ooops, the link doesn't work! Let's try again.

http://www.defra.gov.uk/animal... />

If that one doesn't work, go to the Defra homepage, then the section for animal welfare, then the quick link for Bringing your pets to Britain, and from there you can read up on the Pet Travel Scheme, and instances when quarantine is mandatory.

I had to leave my cats behind with my family and really wish now that I had brought them. Do be aware that you will probably have to pay a higher rent with pets. Most of the less expensive places I looked at had strict "no pets of any sort" rules.
