Last night I went through how much it would cost to get me started in the UK, and (with the flight, but without other costs like the normal passport stuff, and having some of my things sent), it came to something like $5,000 CND.

What has everyone else experienced with this?

Check the costs I've quoted in my blog -- hope it helps. I think it sounds a bit low, but each person is different in what they need/want.

or there's a link on the right which shows a list of recent posts -- click on "Finances -- a top concern for all of us."

My partner and I each came over with about $3,000 each, so $6,000 together, and it was a good amount. Of course, we are considering this a year venture so we aren't settling permanently. If you were looking your own furniture or a car, that wouldn't be enough.

You said on the other thread this is your second year . . . I'm confused.
