Differences

| Sorry if this is already in another thread, but how different have you found the curriculum there? I teach Science here, and I am wondering what differences there are in how things are taught (no so much grading/marking, but actual instruction). Will I be able to use any of the lesson plans I have used here, or will I be starting from scratch? |

Meli???
I know you can answer this . . . |

I have found the curriculum completely different to what I was used to. I don't teach Science but I have found the content is pretty similar in my subject area to home. However, there are some fundamental issues that i have found difficult:
Students are not assessed on a very regular basis, so there are few consequences for the kids who are 'failing'. They just move into the next year and can leave school with no qualifications.
The marking is completely different and very baffling at first.
There is a lot of emphasis placed on planning and evaluation, that i was not used to. Your lessons are observed on a regular basis, which i find really helpful now as you can learn from the feedback. I used to find it really nervewracking and i felt that it was because i was underperforming. However, everyone at my school is observed even the really experienced guys.
OFSTED - The first inspection that you take part in is really scary and the whole school is buzzing with nerves and stress.

Not scary at my school -- we're already a failing school, so we can only stay the same or get better! LOL! |
