I'm a first year teacher from the US (minnesota) and my husband and I are interested in teacher across the big pond..how long does it take to complete the entire process of going online for the first time to uploading your CV, letters, etc. to hopefully hearing from someone about a job?

It depends on the time of year, and of course openings, but I know of several people who had a job within a few weeks of signing up. I had signed up late in the 'season' so had to wait through the year for the next hiring period.

THere are also positions available year-round (i.e., people leaving schools through the year here is not uncommon), so while the majority of jobs are for September, you may snag something at any time. It can be quite quick, though, so be prepared once you register. No real timetable to plan on . . .

Good luck!

Thanks so much - just curious if anyone could give me a heads up on when the right time to start looking is...would it be early spring...for fall openings?

I think the agency will tell you if you email them (you are using BW, right? Hopefully for you!). But I'd say sign up now for openings for fall. Teachers have to give their notice by spring, and some will do so earlier when they know that they're leaving/retiring and won't return, but by March interviews are in full swing, I believe. I got mine in May -- sort of later than many. I think that's about right -- someone can correct me if I'm wrong, surely.

Keep posting -- and we'll help you all we can.
