Hi, I am an overseas teacher with nine years teaching experience and planning to teach in the UK. Can anyone tell me if it is not too tough to manage with a teacher's salary? Thanks a lot.

The hardest part is the very begining while you are still living off the money you've brought with you...paying 1st month's rent and deposit, paying the 1st 6 months water, learning where and how to shop, ...etc. After that though, as long as you are reasonable with your money, you can do alright. Clothing tends to be a bit more expensive here but food is about the same or less in some cases. Taxes are also not as bad as they initially seem. Remember that utilities are often billed in multi-month blocks and plan for that and you'll be fine. Good luck.

I have a comprehensive list of every possible expense on my blog (see thread on that topic for the URL). I don't think it leaves out anything, from the move and setting up your flat, to monthly bills, to groceries and transportation.

Good luck!
