Well, obviously you can research the specific qualification requirements online (just google: QTS UK), but it's basically not much different from getting certified in most other countries.

Generally your school can do it -- you put together a package showoing proof of various things (good teaching practices and knowledge, basically), and they approve it. If you're in a not-so-good school, like mine (failed OFSTED last year, now in Special Measures), you have to go through outside channels to get QTS (it's assumed they might not know and therefore be able to judge good teaching and practices, since they have failed inspection).

You can work for up to 4 years without getting QTS -- I didn't bother with it this year (first year), with so much to do and learn and no mentor -- but if I stay another year, I'll do it next year. I know of others who have done it their first year, though, for the pay raise that their school will give them for being qualified. Fortunately, my school began paying me at almost the top of the qualified scale, due to my experience, education, and qualifications in America, so doing the QTS thing isn't a top priority this year for me.

No, Bluewave doesn't charge us -- I believe it's illegal for employment agencies to charge the employees -- the employers pay here. But Bluewave has a link here, so be sure to ask them any questions you can't find answers to.

How long have you been teaching? Middle or secondary?

I taught middle school band for 2 years, so i'm a fairly new teacher. I think this would be an amazing experience. Are you enjoying yourself?
