Health insurance? Here it's nationalised (socialised) care, meaning a government program for everyone. You need to start reading! Start with my blog -- every single thing you'll ever want to know, surely! Start at the beginning, and work through the months . . .

Actually, they do sell health insurance here if you really want it. And there are plans for key workers such as teachers. This would pay for things like the dentist since the NHS ones are hard to get and for private services so that you don't have to go on a two year waiting list for minor surgeries that might be needed (I've heard of kids waiting up to two years for getting the tonsils out). Unfortunately, I had a lot of contact with NHS shortly after I arrived and it is NOT like in the US. If I could afford it, I think I'd be taking out private coverage. However, if you are generally healthy then NHS is probably alright.
