REQUIREMENTS FOR TEACHING HERE

| I believe the "requirements" for teaching are not JUST what has been written here, as I have experienced from my recent conversation with a Bluewave recruiter. Were the requirements THIS cut and dried, I would NOT have been forwarded additional paper work to complete as a potential candidate for the 2008-2009 year. |

Sure, I'll say it! ('English teacher' always speaks up.)

(Don't hold back -- tell us how you really feel, Kate!)
"It is now April 2008 and these forums are very old -- are there any more recent ones?"
" . . . could someone please explain all the abbreviations -- they are VERY confusing to those of us who are new here . . . "

I take back what I said about "just ask, and we'll help you." You sound sort of negative, and you may keep criticising our posts. I haven't got the time to bother if that's what I get it return.
You come here and immediately start complaining about the information we've spent hours putting here for wannabe-UK-teachers like you. Do you understand Internet forums? We're NOT paid employees who post here and therefore keep it up-to-date, but teachers with a 70-80 hour a week job. Most at least say 'thanks' first and then ask further questions.
Perhaps the staff at Bluewave would be the best place for you to get advice.
Oh, one more thing: the frustrations will be FAR greater than this if you get a position here, trust me (and others). That fact DOESN'T change, regardless of how long this forum has been around, and how out-of-date our information might seem to you!
Good luck. |

Kate,
The kind of paperwork bluewave has asked from me includes the following:
1)A filled-in CV (curriculum vita) form because they don't use the resume format in England that we us in the States.
2)A brief personal statement to post on the website to help get employeers interrested in looking at the CV.
3)Letters of reference
4)A recorded interview
5)Criminal background checks from both Ohio and the FBI.
6)An official fingerprint card for filling with the British home office.
7)Copies of high school and university transcripts AND certificates.
8)a copy of my state teaching license
9)a picture of myself for the web-site (this actually does improve chances of getting hired)
10)And then once I was hired there was paper work and fees for the work permit.
I think I'm forgetting something...but I can't think what it is. Is there something new that bluewave is now asking for? I have been here 2 years now and I have heard about some possible changes in requirements on the news....I'm not clear about the details on those changes as I only heard part of the what was being said as I was getting ready for school.
This really can be a tough job over here. There's a lot to learn which is completely different to what we are use to in the states. Add to that, this is the HARD part of the year for teachers: year 9's are preparing to take the all important SATs and yr 10 & 11 students are preparing to take the EVEN MORE all important GCSEs...so needless to say teachers on this end are walking a tight rope (and I for one am stressed out). Hope you understand.

It seems you mistook what I wrote -- I was not being negative nor criticizng, nor attacking your effort at posting. Several of the postings were general and therefore unclear to me. I was simply trying to better grasp all the information posted here.
Your post seemed to imply that ALL potential teachers to the UK have to have the required certification expected here in the states. The word, "qualified", implies what? How would YOU define qualified -- state certification AND BA/BS degree or just as BA/BS degree?
It seems you are the one being negative. Remember, it is often difficult to know what is the intended sense when one is writing rather than speaking -- hence the danger of misunderstanding. So, in the future, please DO NOT assume I am (or others) are being negative -- ask for clarifiaction before passing judgement and assuming the worst. After all, this forum seems to be here for the purpose of supporting NOT dividing.
