Thanks Meli, I'll try not to stress. I was "sort of" led to believe that it would only take about three or four days. Then, when it was e-mailed in last Monday, there was some concern expressed at the agency that I only provided them with a U.S. state's educator license, and not a diploma. (I have a B.A. with post bac. School of Ed/teacher training/endorsements from U of MT) I thought I read here that just a copy of the notarized license was satisfactory. Do you (or anyone reading this)happen to know?? You'd think the agency (not Bluewave) would be more familiar with these requirements. I've spent a fair amount of time on the Border/Immigration web site this week reading policy. It basically just states that the credential must be a "UK equivalent". I sure hope at this point that not hearing anything from them(as in no immediate rejection/requests for more documentation) is a good thing.

Thanks for your knowlege/experiences. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated...

Hi Thomas,

Actually, you'll need both the actual teaching liscence and the certificate showing you successfully completed a teacher training program. Bluewave allowed me to scan and email copies of these, so maybe that will work for you as well.

Also, if you think you are going to want to stay and work for Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) you'll need the following: 1)You're state teaching liscence (permit), 2)transcripts from all educational institutions attended (including high school), 3)the certificates for all the degrees earned (including the high school diploma), and 4)things showing what you've accomplished as a teacher (i.e. planning student field trips, innovative activities you've developed, communications with parents, letters of recommendation, samples of student work,...etc--you can just develop new stuff here as well if you don't have any, it just speeds up the process a bit.) Oh, I almost forgot: you would also need a copy of your criminal background check.

I hope that helps,
Meli

M,

In fact I will be hoping to stay and obtain QTS. I can provide all that you mentioned, but I guess I'm back to stressing out about this initial process with the UK work permit team. I'm sure that only my Educator's license was submitted on my behalf by the employer with the initial application. If they need more documentation, I can provide it, but obviously it will really slow things down alot. Oh well. Hopefully nobody involved (I know I won't) will be giving up to easily...

Meanwhile I must admit, this whole between jobs/don't have a contract/can't sign a lease/unemployment thing is really taking a toll on me...

Thanks for your take on it...

Thomas,

Don't stress out too much. I've found that these things have a way of working themselves out alright. One step at a time, just provide them with what they ask for. Teachers are in demand over here so "no worries mate." ;-)

Thanks Meli,

I REALLY needed to hear that!! I keep hoping that perhaps no news is good news. That ultimately I won't be denied, and that if there were a problem, I would have been asked for more info by now. Maybe they're just busy, eh?

I'll keep posting and let everyone know what happens. Perhaps we'll all learn a little more about some of the needs and timeframes at Work Permits UK this year. Thanks again for the vote of confidence.
