Hi Crazy...;-)

Actually, I don't think you're crazy at all...just gutsy. Of course, this may be a case of one lunatic evaluating the sanity of another.

Shoot for beyond Christmas... The kids actually expect people to leave before or at Christmas time so they lighten up a bit after you come back. It gets even easier when you come back for the next year (cause then they KNOW they're stuck with ya)...and of course, you know where to come (this forum) if you need advice or meerly to blow off a bit of frustration.

When's the flight? We're all pulling for you here.

I set up some accomodations yesterday. I'll book a flight today. Planning to travel a week from now. Leave Thursday. Arrive Friday. Gives me the weekend to rest and get my bearings. Well, maybe up from down at least anyway..

Of course I'll let you all know.

Thanks for your support...

Well I tried. Really I did...But the round trip ticket with a Christmas return was actually CHEAPER than the one way!!

Guess I really do have a back-up plan now. : )

Perhaps if I start looking this far out, I can find a one-way back from the states at a reasonable rate and come see my kids over the break. That would be fun. Otherwise, I guess I'll just burn the thing in some kind of right of passage ceremony or something when the time comes..

Can any of you tell me of carrying luggage on public transport? I had some trouble finding flights to London City, so I finally resigned myself to Heathrow. It looks to be at least 50 Km to where I need to be though. I was thinking that there must be some alternatives to a taxi for at least some of the way. Any thoughts???

Hi Thomas,

Carry on luggage is limitted by the airline in terms of size and number of bags...sometimes even in terms of weight. I strongly suggest that you check with the airline on that one. Usually they have a website with that info.... Oh and be aware of the limits on liquids/semi-liquids and "sharp" articles (no finger nail clippers with nail file dude.)

I believe checked luggage is ususually limited to 70 lbs. And there usually is a size limit as well. Most airlines allow you to pay extra for overages and for additional suitcases. Again, check with the airline...

Sorry, I wish I could help you more here. Some people have had luck with mailing stuff to themselves. If you know an address in advance, this might be an option to reduce having to fight with stuff through customs and in cabs ...etc once you arrive. I know Jess82 had some luck with this...

Anyway ;-)
