Jess,

I'll look for your post. May I suggest some place like the British Art Museum front steps where it would be easier for us to find one another? Meeting in train terminals ...etc I've found to be a particularly bad idea since there are so many different entrances. Or maybe in the lobby of your hotel... I really don't know London itself very well as I don't go down there very often, but I'd love to welcome you to the country before you move off to your own little corner.

Meli,
The art museum sounds great, I've been there before and so should be able to find it pretty easily (when my friend and I attempted to go there one Sunday we stared at the back of it for about 15 minutes before we figured out we were actually there). I'm excited to be living somewhere that offers so many things to do within a relatively short distance, the closest major city to me is about 7 hours in either direction and now I'll have one of the world's top cities within two hours of me! Have you had the oppurtunity to travel much since you've been teaching there?

Hi Jess,

Sounds as though you are currently somewhere between Dayton and Toledo... Pretty country.;-) Oh wait a minute, your the one from down south who went to Uni in Ohio aren't you? I think I've lost the thread somewhere...typical of me. Bring some pictures about yourself that you would be comfortable sharing with curious students...particularly prom pictures. Your students will eat them up and it will help endear yourself to them faster so you don't have as many fights. If you make several colour copies of them and have them laminated, you could put up a little "Wong Wall" display about yourself that kids who are interested could look at. All I brought are pictures of my family, but the kids KEEP repeatedly keep coming in just to look at them and ask about them. Pretty sweet really.

The opportunity to travel has DEFINATELY been available to me, but I was so busy trying to catch my feet this first year that I didn't take advantage of it. The one I most regretted was the 5 day cruise down the Nile for 200 pounds all inclusive over last Christmas break. Then there was the 3 days in Brussels for 84 pounds (including everything except food) that I was offered a couple days ago. Couldn't take that one because the British government still has my passport. They (the gov) sent me a letter saying it was going to take them at least 8 weeks to get around to considering it so there goes any hopes of any last minute summer travels...sigh. All the more time to prep for next year so that I'll have time to go places at the breaks.

Meli,
I am from a small town on Northeast Ohio, about 45 minutes from Youngstown (where the univeristy that I went to is located). It's still rather pretty down this way too, but I know the area your talking about as well since one of my college friends lived in Clyde and I've been there to visit a few times.

That is a good idea with the pictures of me and students, I think that would be something I'd want to see if I had a teacher from the UK (and if I had I would have totally adored them!) I thought about making the first day writing assignment to tell me what I should really know about England and the area that I'd never see in a guide book or advice guide about England, let them be creative but use their writing skills! I think I remember others saying that decorative band-aids were key and Crystal light packets individually.

I'm glad to hear you've found such good travel deals, I'd love to do all of those things and being so much closer to everything of course makes it cheaper, my friends and mom want to visit me and I'm thinking we should do a tour like the Nile thing or something in Europe while they are over that way anyway.

I'd like to get your e-mail address so we can talk more without having to let everyone see (for the sake of not boring them, not being secretive! lol) if you leave me a message on my blog I'll delete it straight away so I can get your e-mail and start writing to you for advice on more mundane things! http://jessicasoe.blogspot.com... />
Enjoy your summer though you are held hostage with no passport!
