Can a single mom do this?

| Honest answers, please--
Can a single mom make the move to teach in the UK with a daughter who is not yet school-age? Mostly I'm wondering about the quality and availability of childcare. Anyone have any ideas or advice about life in the UK with children in tow? I haven't read anything on the forum from anyone who moved with children, but maybe someone out there knows someone who has?
Thanks for any advice! |

Hi,
I'm not a parent (single or otherwise.) However, I do know that the Bedfordshire where I live offers help finding acredited childminders and preschools for working parents. I'm sure most places do.
I do need to caution though that teaching here is NOT like teaching back home. There's a lot of new stuff to learn and that takes quite a bit of time. I'm not trying to discourage you, but you need to consider your own situation carefully.

Thanks Meli, I'm going to spend some time time browsing around LEA and other community sites to see what childcare is available where.
I've been reading through the forums here and at TES, and have looked through some of the GCSE curriculum materials. The whole system looks VERY different from the US. So I'm trying to find all the information I can before I apply. But I know I want to do this, if not next year, then the year after, when my daughter is ready for preschool. I've been dreaming about it since before I got my teaching credential! |

| Why would you move to another country if you were a single mom? Sounds irresponsible |
