Hi again,

I wont say that there are NO specialist teachers anywhere here in the UK because my experience is limitted by the school where I teach, the schools I've observed at, and what I've heard from other science teachers I've had the opportunity to meet with. It is possible that there are specialist teachers at some schools here, but I don't believe that they are at all the norm.

I have a copy of (and use as a reference myself) the GCSE Edexcel 360Science book which is pretty good for KS4. My school has no texts for KS3 science and I mainly reference books I've brought with me from the states and just following standards that are set. It is by no means difficult science at KS3. I get a little support for the chemistry, but nothing seriously worrying.

Instead of going and buying a book (or books), can I recommend that you familiarize yourself with the standards that are well presented online. I believe that there is a link to the official standards website through the "English Education System" link in the green column on the left. If you don't find it there, let me know and I'll dig it out and repost it here. Ok?
