What are your experiences with the academy programme?

Hello everybody,
I am Headteacher of a christian school in Germany. Just recently I have heard about the academy programme in the UK. I was very surprised that so much money is invested in all these new buildings and the school concepts promise a successful development for teaching and learning. Can anybody tell something about his or her experiences working in an academy? |

| Hi Jo, I've seen that no ones responded to you so I thought I'd let you know what I know! I haven't taught in any of the academies but I've a good network of teacher friends here and one of them has been in an Academy in London for past 6 months. He's really enjoying it, whilst the kids are mainly from more disadvantaged backgrounds he's found improving their learning has been very rewarding and the main thing is that the staff are all really supportive and very strong teachers. I guess this is because they have had to turn the school around. He hasn't mentioned much about the building and all the new equipment etc. |

thank you for your reply. As I had given up hope that somebody would answer, I didnīt watch the Forum lately, so I didnīt answer right away. Do you think I could get in contact with your friend? I would be very interested to meet somebody who works at an accademy and maybe have the oportunity to visit one. |
