Hello and thanks for reading no doubt already covered questions. I'm from British Columbia Canada and I graduated in 2005 with now two years teaching in South Korea. I'm heading home in March and ready to work in September. Anyway, I am able to teach K-12 preferably in the 11-13 range though I am comfortable teaching High School Business and Marketing. My question is focussed on teaching experience and citizenship. 1) Does teaching in England count towards "time teaching" in Canada? 2) My mother is Welsh born 1937 - Am I able to get a British Passport? This apparently would allow me to work in all of the EU but I am not sure. 3) I have heard some scary stories about teaching in London with some pretty brutal kids. I'm not sure I want to get thrown into that yet. I want to kind of get my bearings with relatively good groups of kids. I hate to use the word easier, but I know that there is a huge teacher drop out and I'd rather start off with a good experience. I know no guarantees but... 4) Saving money is a big one. I know the cost of living is high in the UK - but how do the taxes workout. If I pay 22% in England I don't want to come back to Canada and get nailed again. I have to ship $700.00Cad a month back for loans - can I live on the rest and still save a bit for inter Europe trips to German, France, Italy etc? I have no master's degree. In South Korea I can save quite a bit and I suspect a lot more than the UK but I only get two 1 week vacations here so I'm willing to take a cut. I'd hope to be able to save $10,000.00Cad over the course of the year (with $8400.00Cad in loan payments). Is that asking way too much? In South Korea they fly you both ways and cover your rent with a take-home of about $30,000.00 Cad including pension and completion bonus. 5) I loved London and Scotland and I have lived in Wales for year when I was a kid. Any jobs in Wales? Thanks everyone - I know big post.
