I was wondering when schools begin contacting applicants for interviews. Has anyone began setting up interviews? I'm unsure of when the peak hiring time for the next year is. Thanks!

Lots of posts on that topic -- read a bit/ (You'll also find out ots of other good/necessary info, too!)

Best of luck!

Short answer: right about now (March-April).

There are many multiple posts on this site to back this up as well. Eventhough this is the biggest time of the year for hiring, hiring does happen all year round here. It's not like in the States where teachers sign a contract for the whole year and are required to stay the whole year before resigning....teachers can give notice for the end of any term here.

Oh, I should mention that if we're not returning in September, we have to give notice by the last week of May. So a flood of vacancies will open up then.

According to Bluewave, at this point schools are still doing their own recruiting (why pay an agency this early, when they have plenty of time to search on their own?). Later, though, when they can't fill their vacancies, they'll start using the agencies more. And a big rush will be at the very end of May, and early June, due to our end-of-May deadline to give notice.
