Alaska Teacher Looking for information
|
|
| I am currently hoping to teach in the UK and was wondering if anyone knew when the hiring season started? In the US it starts around the end of March into April but I know the school year is a bit different over seas. Also I was wondering if there is anything else I can do to be more proactive about being hired other than registering with agencies? I'm very excited about the possibility of teaching overseas... Any information would be helpful. Thank you. |

Hi there
Sorry, it took so long to get back to you. I don't often look at this particular forum board as questions such as your's are normally posted on the 1st board.
Answers to most of your questions have actually aleady been covered pretty extensively on that 1st board. I am going to suggust that you take a little time to sift quickly through those post because there are lot's of gems of information that I think you'll find very helpful.
England hires all year round because teachers can give notice and leave at the end of any of the three terms. End of February into March is the main hiring season over here. If you've posted just now, you are getting in at the tail-end when activity will be slowing down again. Don't worry too much because there are still positions available or coming available so all is not lost.
About being more proactive, the only thing I can think of that you can do would be to look for teacher-recruitment fairs which feature over-seas recruiters. I know for a fact that people from my school have been to fairs in Ireland and in North Carolina. I also know that Bluewave was interviewing people for schools in Canada in the spring of 2006. I found just posting on the website sufficient though because experienced science teachers are hard to find over here. It really depends what subject(s)in which you are qualified: core areas such as English, Maths, and Science are in big demand while other subjects are less in demand (but not hopeless cases.)
I hope that helps. Now, get on the 1st forum and see what other gems of information are available for you...
Good luck
