I am a teacher from the US, but I only work as a full time substitute teacher here, because I didn't go through a traditional teaching credential program. Do I need an actual American teaching credential from my home state in order to be an "unqualified teacher" in the UK? I do have a BA in political science, and I have been teaching for about a year full time in public school.

Any information would help. Also, my wife is an EU citizen, so I am already cleared to work in the UK.

Hi CRC, Im pretty sure that you need a teaching qualification to be able to teach here. A friend of mine has been looking into it and was told that the immigration situation (ie work permit) is difficulat to get if you dont have teaching degree/qualification. Sorry - maybe someone else has some different advice?

I thought it was almost impossible to get a work permit without qualifications?
