What method do people use to send money home for bills like student loans and credit cards? I'm from Canada and am not sure what my options are.

Disucsing this situation with my banker in the United States she suggested to set up on line banking for bills and things through the bank in the UK, and possibly if you already have email banking and bill pay through your bank at home send money through bill pay to your home bank account as if you were paying a bill.

Be aware, I've spoken to my bank too, and they will accept a wire transfer from a bank from overseas, but they charge upwards of $40.00 per wire transfer. I think paying bills via a website might be a better option, but I know in the U.S., most places want money drawn on U.S. funds, from U.S. banks. For me, I'll be doing a once-a-month money transfer to my checking account here, and will be using that money to pay bills via the internet.

Have you considered setting up a Paypal account?
There are fees involved however.

I know this is an old thread but I just discovered something great....

I kept my bank account in the states which is being managed for me by a family member. I can send checks to my bank account in the States from my bank here without the normal money transfer charges. My bank in the states uses the lower conversion rate, but no fees. And HSBC has free checking...so cool! It may be specific to the two banks I'm with, but it is worth looking into.
