Why do I need to pay this tax once I arrive to teach in UK, and how much I need to pay for this?

There are other threads about taxes here, but basically you'll have taken out of your pay:

1) Regular taxes -- about 22% for most teachers (but the first £5,060 of your income isn't taxable -- personal deduction)

2) National Insurance (about 8%, but if you don't do the NIN paperwork FAST, you be taxed an emergency rate, of about 50%).

There's a thread I started today on this topic, and there are others which also talk about taxes. You'll bring home about 75% of what you earn, as a general rule. (I know that 22% and 8% add up to 30%, but remember that £5,060 of your income is not taxable, so hence the difference.)

Hey "English Teacher" & "Happy" I've been teaching here for a while now (originally from Oz, though my accent is getting less every day!)The highest rate of tax in the UK is 40% so you will never pay more than that, emergency tax code or not. The tax code you get as a temporary only taxes you a bit more than normal so I wouldn't worry too much guys!
