Saleem's information

I have studied a PGCE in ICT student at John Moores University and gained qualified teacher status in June 2007. I have studied Maths at AS-level and would also feel competent teaching Maths up to GCSE. I read Information Systems at John Moores University achieving an honours degree. This course covered a wide range of Computing, Algorithmic, Media and Business based subjects, which gave me broad subject knowledge.

In August 2007 I decided to accept an offer to work in a private school in Muscat due to the experience that was being offered. So far it has exceeded my expectations in every way. I have been able to teach in accordance with the English national curriculum and following an English syllabus throughout KS3 to KS5, which has meant that I have been able to learn a vast amount of information that would be directly transferable to a school in England. The iGCSE ICT syllabus has been a joy to teach and I have seen pupils respond very positively to the almost equal mix of theory to practical content. The course offers pupils the chance to develop a deep understanding of ICT and learn many skills ranging from presentation techniques to web site development. As a teacher the course has called upon my teaching ability including strong subject knowledge. The Edxcel GCE Applied ICT course has also been a pleasure to teach and similarly pupils have also responded very well. I have been directly responsible for preparing resources, delivering lessons and moderating coursework. The course is e-portfolio based and has to be one of the most enjoyable courses that I have taught because of the design of the modules, the techniques used in the creation of the e-books and because the examination board gives an abundance of guidance. Never the less the pupil’s have found it challenging due to the work load but having taught it now for four months I have seen some excellent examples from my class.
