Ellen's information
As a single, healthy adult I am seeking a position in an international school where I can devote my free time to my students and fellow staff. I come from my university years where I was immersed in an educational environment in my work, home and leisure time in which I volunteered. Because I am single and do not have a family to devote myself to, I wish to live in an educational environment which will allow me the opportunity to serve others. I seek an entry level position that will allow me to use the skills I possess to gain further experience. Below I will offer a self-assessment detailing the skills and qualities I possess and will use under the direction of your school. I have the power to implant rich content knowledge into the minds of all my students. Through my university field experiences, travel abroad, and people centered employment I have gained flexibility, organization and confidence in working with students. I believe that by working with seasoned teachers I can brainstorm, question and learn from others as I improve my instructional methods. During my student teaching experience I will have the opportunity to develop my personal teaching style. I am an advocate of teacher centered learning which focuses on high student achievement. As a teacher I want to develop critical thinking and problem solving skills in my students through a rich history and geography curriculum. I want further student’s appreciation and enjoyment of the subject area by applying authentic experiences to the subject matter. Qualifications: I will earn my Bachelor’s of Arts from the University in Northern Iowa. I will be endorsed in all areas of the social studies. I am flexible and willing to volunteer to work with students and staff in other areas of the education system and the school. Volunteer work as a coach, guiding after school clubs and activities, and tutoring are just a few examples of programs I would be willing to assist and hope to lead on my own. My experience working as a YMCA camp counselor, an outdoor naturalist educator, and teaching English as a Second Language have given me the confidence and ability to be flexible in creating varied curriculum and educational activities, in and out of the regular classroom. The prospect of teaching overseas interests me because teaching is a rewarding and demanding job. Teaching in a foreign culture, with non-native language speakers is even more demanding. I have chosen to student teach internationally to get my foot in the door and begin to find familiarity between what I know, and what I will teach. I plan to continue building upon my international experiences by seeking my first position overseas. Characteristics: I attribute my willingness to travel to growing up in a stable agricultural community where my parents have always been dedicated to the people, land, and animals they raise. I secretly relish the idea of packing my life into a suitcase and traveling off somewhere knowing that I am headed to a classroom and a community where I have the opportunity to share my personal gifts with others. Studying in the UK gave me the opportunity to adapt to a different paced life, a public transportation system and a new university education system. When the opportunity came to experience China, and teach English I was just as excited to adapt to a different continent, language and culture even if it was only for a month. Once again I have taken the opportunity to finish my degree in Vienna by student teaching at the Vienna International School.
