Karen's information

I started my career as a teacher at a later date than most. I was a stay at home mom and housewife. I now wish I had started a lot sooner because I really love the job. I have spent the last thirteen years working in schools in disadvantaged areas, both in Los Angeles and in Hawaii and in both environments found teaching to be rewarding and inspiring. I have worked for most of my career in the area of special education both with middle school students, ages 12 – 14, and primary school students, ages 9-10. It has been very fulfilling to aide these students with extra help and interventions that enable them to progress academically. I also get a lot of satisfaction seeing them make progress with their social skills. Often this area needs a lot more attention then their academics. Although paper work is not my favourite thing to do, organization is a strength and I am able to always complete it in a timely manner. I was recruited to work in Hawaii as an answer to Federal compliance issues in the area of special education. I have greatly enjoyed living and working here for the last 6 years. I have decided to relocate because the educational company that I work for may not get another year’s contract here.
