Kimberly's information
Music has been a passion all of my life and teaching music is the most rewarding experience I have ever had. I began teaching private violin and viola lessons when I was in my second year in high school. Since then I have kept a studio of students. I have been asked to assist in teaching university education courses for stringed instruments, and I am frequently asked to return to my hometown to assist with the orchestra program. During the fall semester, I completed my student teaching with a district that allowed me a great amount of experience. I will be qualified to teach music to all ages, but specialise in orchestra and strings.
I will be graduating with a minor in special education, which gives me the knowledge and resources to successfully include students with diverse needs into my classroom. I believe that music should be available to all students and that everyone can benefit from having music in their lives. I want to create an environment where I can meet the needs of all of my students and include everyone in a musical experience. During my student teaching, I was given the opportunity to teach an adaptive general music class for six children with severe needs. That was the most meaningful experience I have had so far. I currently teach with the Young Musicians’ Program at Miami University. The program director sends me all of the really young students that she is too afraid to work with, so I am currently teaching four students all under the age of seven. One of my students and I will be featured in an article in the state music educator’s publication for a composition project we are working on together. In addition to teaching students, I assist in planning and running group classes and recitals.
I\'m looking to experience something new. The prospect of moving overseas is incredibly exciting to me. Music is, to a large extent, cultural. I want the opportunity to share music as I know it and to learn about music in another culture.
