Kerry's information
I completed my studies in visual art and teaching at the end of 2004 and left New Zealand for Japan in May 2005. I worked there for a year teaching English and in July 2006 moved to Madrid where I completed a 4-week course in TEFL and worked in the same field from September 2006 to June 2008. From July to December I taught in children’s camps throughout Spain. I am currently filling a long-term relief post at Okaihau College in New Zealand as a Graphics teacher.
After three teaching practices in high schools in New Zealand as part of teacher training, I discovered that my strengths lay in my organizational skills, motivation and my ability to build a rapport with students. I also feel that the ability to self-critique, and attempt to improve any weak areas, is one of my strong points.
Teaching English as a second language has allowed me to build on many skills: making assessments, giving simplified instructions, and also coming up with innovative and interesting lesson plans. Living in Japan and Spain has also, inevitably, opened my eyes to new cultures and allowed me to gain a different perspective on the world. I have also been able to see a lot of art in person, as Tokyo and Madrid both have a wealth of fantastic galleries.
I will arrive in the UK on July 1st 2008.
