Marlon's information
Teaching is the first and only job I have had. I was very fortunate to have obtained a job at the Happy Grove High School immediately after leaving Teachers’ College. I taught Mathematics for two years (1997-1999) to both upper and lower school, after which I was asked to teach Integrated Science also (1999-2002). In 2002 I went to the University of the West Indies to pursue a Bachelor Degree and a Masters Degree on a part time basis in 2005. During these years I was totally involved in all aspects of the running of the school.
During the first two years of teaching, I became involved in many Extra-Curricula activities. In 1999 I became a Commissioned Officer of the Jamaica Combined Cadet Force, and then organized for the first Cadet Unit at the school, thus resulting in a noticeable improvement in students’ discipline, especially among the boys. During this period I was also a member of the school’s Track and Field coaching staff. Two years later, I was granted my hard earned Study Leave to pursue the Bachelor of Education Degree at the University of the West Indies.
I do not only have a good command of the subject’s content material and the methodologies to help impart this knowledge to students, but tries at all time to balance what is happening in the society with that of the text book material. I am an effective communicator who knows when to change my communicating technique and adjust to the need of the students. My training as an Officer has forced me to place the greatest value on good discipline, therefore I am a disciplinarian.
