I finished Teachers College in New Zealand last year, as part of my training I had done 20 weeks of teaching in 4 different schools. Two of these were single sex catholic boys schools, one was a large, progressive inner city school and the final school I taught at was one of the worst schools in the region (a teacher had been hospitalised after being assaulted by a student in class the week before I started there).
I arrived in the UK at New Years and started with long term supply at Broomfield School in Arnos Grove. I taught there for 4 weeks. I taught science for years 8-11 and A level biology to year 12s. The class I liked most was my bottom set year 9s as I could adopt a more practical approach to teaching, which I found more enjoyable.
Then I did long term supply at Kingsmead School in Enfield for 3 weeks. I taught years 8-10 for Science, year 12 Critical Thinking and year 9 Citizenship and Religious Studies.
Since then I have been doing day supply at various schools, mainly in South London; which I have found interesting as it has been good to see what different schools are like.
