Jill's information
I am eager to grow in my profession and would welcome the opportunity to discuss how my expertise would best meet the needs of your educational program. As a dedicated teaching professional, I seek to bring to you a creative and energising learning environment that brings out the best in your students. The art educator role for me would be defined as one who is a mentor and guide for the visual arts. Through careful understanding of my student population and needs, I take my student artists on marvellous journeys into the world of art. Encouragement and positive criticism are constantly provided. I may help students solve problems, work on techniques, and make aesthetic choices. The secrets of the studio and art world are revealed through our work. We learn not only how to make art but the history of art, how to talk about it (criticism), and the beauty (aesthetics) of art. Everyone has something unique to offer. Each student learns to recognise their strengths, strengthen their weakness, and make their own personal contribution in art. The lessons we learn in the art room are really life lessons. For each student comes with his or her own bits of knowledge/skills, personal experiences, and cultural influences. Through the art process, students develop the ability to critically analyse problems and deal with ambiguity. Problems are thus solved. Perseverance and the search for excellence are refined. Real-life connections are made and solidified. Students learn to depend on themselves and take pride in their work. All these life skills follow my students beyond the art room. Such skills transfer to other academic endeavours and work but more importantly these skills provide the building blocks for a more thoughtful, inventive, and creative citizenry.
