Construct a Concise, Informative and Robust CV/Resume
At Bluewave we know how difficult is to make a piece of paper aptly portray your skills, experience and personality to a potential employer. There is definitely an art to it and we have come up with a couple of tips to help you build a strong CV.
- Try and keep your CV to 2 Pages only
- First Impressions count - Design, Layout and Correct Spelling count for a lot
- Enter your qualifications and work history in chronological order with Month & Year dated alongside & ALWAYS start with the MOST RECENT FIRST.
- One CV does not fit all positions, so be aware that you may have to adjust your resume to the position(s) you are applying for.
- Write a quarter or half page (maximum) overview of yourself for the first page. This should include; teaching philosophy, career overview, key strengths and specific attributes that set you apart from the next applicant.
- Remember you are not JUST a teacher, don't simply list one teaching position after the other, take the time to summarise all the activities you were involved in at the school and comment on significant achievements during this time.
- Remember to interject your teaching and leadership abilities throughout the CV such as classroom management, supervisory roles, student outcomes, and work with parents and governors for instance.
- If you are a newly qualified teacher, then your student teaching experiences account for a lot, so make sure you list these in chronological order and write a brief paragraph reflecting on your experience. Try in incorporate facts such as subjects/grades taught, types of students, what you achieved and learnt from the experience.
